What height do I need?

This is the single most common question asked regarding environmental barrier fencing. "Every situation is unique which is why we like to meet with the customer on-site to provide recommendations and listen to the customer's ideas. We also provide input on what has worked for our customers to help determine a site specific design". Estimates and consultations are always provided at no cost to the customer.

Typically litter control barriers vary from 18 to 40 feet high and generally are confined to the down wind areas of the landfill. Judge Netting provides free estimates at various heights and lengths to help determine the scope of work and assist in budgeting and planning. Factors include wind speed, distance to adjacent property, cost of litter pickup, etc. We can apply our experience with other similar facilities and develop several options.

How much will my netting cost?

Because of the custom nature of every job, pricing is specific for each situation. Factors involving cost are geographic location, wind speed, wind loading, permitting requirements, and most importantly barrier height. Specific Information needed for an estimate include the following:
  • What are the general soil conditions?
  • How many lineal feet of coverage do we need?
  • What is the maximum trash load this barrier will sustain under the worst case scenario? (How much trash will accumulate on the barrier at a given time)
  • Are permits and local building department approvals required?
  • Will the barrier need relocation, and how long will the barrier be functional at this site?.

How long will the barrier last?

We use a high strength UV treated custom manufactured polyester netting carrying a 6 year full value warranty. Poles are always set to withstand the anticipated load demands specified by you, the customer. Our netting supplier has never had a warranty claim on their netting. The netting is custom fabricated for each job, with 3,500 lb. rope sewn in vertically, horizontally, and around the perimeter of each panel. The net always fits tight and is supported vertically, laterally, and horizontally to increase longevity and prevent billowing. Our supplier has over 30 years of experience and is the recognized leader in the industry.

Steel poles are coated with a STRYK 5388 anti-corrosion system (three coats) and are engineered to the required specifications. Our pole supplier has never had a structural failure and has provided poles for installation at over 400 locations across North America. Judge Netting is a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor with installations in 8 western states.

We always exceed customer expectations with the ultimate in quality craftsmanship and installation techniques. We have over 27 years of experience in our field. Our experience, coupled with integrity and the highest ethical standards, will insure our customers receive the utmost in customer satisfaction and the finest quality installation available in North America.

What type of poles and hardware should I use?

Pole types that can be used include wood, steel or concrete. Cost and viability are usually the most often used criteria in choosing which type of pole to use. Wood utility poles are a popular option because they are plentiful and the least expensive. Steel poles are also very popular because of the pre-engineered design considerate of wind load that accompanies the purchase of some steel poles. Concrete poles are the least popular option due to the fact that they are more difficult to handle during installation (sheer weight), which usually mitigates any material cost savings. Regarding hardware, we strongly recommend the use of utility grade fittings, attachments, anchors, cable strand, and methodology. The use of these materials and construction techniques will best compliment the pole/net system, ease facilitation of an engineers approval and provide the best aesthetics possible when the net panels are suspended.

Will my project be economically feasible?

Our customers typically save tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars annually. A well planned, designed, and constructed barrier will:
  • Significantly reduce or eliminate litter collection cost.
  • Establish good will with neighbors, government agencies, and environmentalist. A barrier shows that "something is being done" to contain trash, dust, and debris.
  • Reduce or eliminate costly litigation and punitive action.
